On my foundation course I am learning many new techniques in graphics, print, 3d, and many more. Through exploring all these things I have realised that my main interests are in fine art, painting and drawing but that I love to use a graphic style in my work. For a Fine Art project on Manmade and Natural Form my final piece was a print of the Hilton hotel covered by a tree. This reflected environmental life cycles, how buildings have replaced trees but nature is still prevalent. The next project was based on culture; I chose to produce a wall hanging representing the Aztecs, which I achieved using mixed media of rubber inner tubes and self-printed fabrics which I stitched together. I was inspired by the bold patterns and colours in Aztec clothing, weapons, buildings and script. For a recent Graphics brief I chose the subculture of punk, developing a book cover which I printed using Photoshop and screen print combined with the ransom note style of Jamie Reid. I really enjoyed studying the human form in life drawing class with a lot of different media, which has helped me in my current project entitled ‘Myself’. I have been experimenting with portraiture using print and collage as well as focusing on developing painting skills and techniques. I am enjoying the experience of developing as an artist immensely and would now like to study more about painting in particular but to also expand my knowledge of art and artists. The Fine Art course at MMU will help me to achieve this with the access to studio space and facilities, the emphasis on painting and the stimulating atmosphere of being surrounded by other artists.
